FAQs Septic System Inspection

If you recently purchased a new home in the Buffalo, St Michael, Monticello MN area and want a Professional Septic System Inspection, then Custom Septic, Inc. (CSI) is here to help. An Annual Septic Checkup is different than a Septic Compliance Inspection but both provide valuable information that can help to protect your family, your investment and your neighborhood.

  1. Why Do I Need a Septic Compliance Inspection?

Answer: There are several different occasions when a Septic Compliance Inspection is required. Each city has their own requirements for sewage system inspections. Common reasons include; New Septic Installation, Upgraded Sewage System, Home Addition, Transfer of Property, Report of Septic System Malfunction or change in local regulations.

  1. What Is a Certificate of Compliance?

Answer: After a septic system is inspected by a MPCA Certified Septic Inspector, the property owner will be issued either a Certificate of Compliance (COC) or a Notice of Non Compliance (NON). The Certificate of Compliance lets stakeholders know that the sewer system was operating in compliance with current regulations. The COC is valid for 3 years. This does not act as a warranty on the health of the septic system.

  1. What Happens With a Notice of Non-Compliance?

Answer: If your septic system is issued a Notice of Non-Compliance (NON), it means problems were found that made it Unsafe or Failed to meet code requirements. Regulations are put in place to Protect Human Health and the Environment.

You will be given further instructions on how much time is allowed to get the necessary Septic System Repairs or Upgrade. Special Financing options may be available to help offset the costs.

  1. Why Get an Annual Septic Checkup?

Answer: Yearly Septic Inspections can be a good investment for maintaining a healthy, relatively problem-free sewer system. Custom Septic, Inc. (CSI) can take a look at various Septic System Components to look for potential problems. Your inspector can let you know if the Septic Tank needs to be Pumped Out, the Drainfield has a Biomat issue or another area that requires attention.
